Reverend Allen E. Schaarschmidt, former rock-band drummer and U. S. marine, received two purple hearts for his service in Viet Nam. He holds his theology degree from United Wesleyan College. His passion? To play his drums on Sundays, make the gospel easy to understand and pepper it with lots of humor. Two things hes learned: That God is real and that you can know him personally.

Elizabeth Schaarschmidt, a graduate of Mary Byers and former executive assistant, also attended United Wesleyan College. As Ministry Director she leads worship and coordinates volunteers. Her passion? To spice up the gospel with a personal story. And add a good poem. Two things shes learned: That the pain monster runs when God shows up. That having pain with God present is better than having health with God missing.

Married since 1968, the founders and pastors of Blessed Hope enjoy two wonderful daughters, two terrific sons-in-law and one awesome grandson. They share their empty nest with Smokey - their gray cat, Major - their very-human Australian Shepherd and their three white doves - Snowy, Sky and Joy.
